GrowFelt Wool is manufactured from wool rich fibres and is a growth media product with superior water retention and an open structure to promote rapid germination and plant growth.

This seed matting substrate is available as 1 metre wide rolls (up to 50 m in length), but can be manufactured in a range of widths (up to 4.3 m wide – please contact us for bespoke sizing). These rolls are lightweight (500 g/m2), easy to handle, and simple to use. They have a nominal thickness of 5 mm (+/- 0.5 mm), and a water holding capacity of 3 litres/m2.

This growing media is a superb substrate and excellent alternative to peat. It is generally recommended for use with hydroponic systems, however, it can also be used in combination with alternative substrate materials, including compost-based nutrients as well as with capillary matting.

The growing mats are an ideal media for the propagation of microgreens, microleaf, microherbs, sprouts and baby leaf, and cultivation using this media is extremely straightforward – just thoroughly wet the GrowFelt Wool substrate with a nutrient rich and treated water, scatter the seeds at the required density, or place with a specific sowing machine, then place in an darkened space or germination room/area (with the right conditions of moisture, temperature depending on crop species) and leave for up to 3 days (crop dependent), before moving into a light environment. For more information about the cultivation of microgreens, please read our technical article on the subject.
